Course Description

Introduces students to integrated techniques of physical therapies: mixing western sports/deep tissue techniques with traditional Chinese medicine Acupressure and rebalancing healing techniques to discover a more efficient treatment for physical, internal or energetic injuries, restrictions or blockages.

Pre-requisite/program: Qualified and insured practitioners of Physiotherapy, Osteopathy, Sports therapist, Aromatherapy or any other modality of Physical Therapy.

What You Will Learn

Kiom Techniques

  • Lengthening strokes. Use to elongate short muscles.
  • Anchor and Stretch. Anchor at the spot of most tension, pressing and holding, stretch the muscle in either direction.
  • Cross- Fibre strokes. Performed on the tendinous insertions of muscles.
  • Separating Muscle Compartments. Freeing up two or three muscles groups that are meant to slide past each other.
  • Releasing Entrapment. Along the tendinous areas of individual muscles, ie: shins, calves, biceps.
  • Shortening of muscles and articulations. To help the release of knots and fibres.

List of Trigger/ Acupressure Points

  • SCM. Sternocleidomastoideous. Mid section
  • Occipital bone. Right-left of C
  • TMJ. Insertion of upper post mandible with ear canal
  • Medial angle superior border upper scapula, whilst reducing shortening of Levator Scapulae muscle.
  • QL. Superficial and deep points.
  • TFL & Gluteus Maximus. Upper insertion points
  • Popliteous Tendon. External upper insertion on flexion of knee.
  • Gastrocnemius (calf) lower insertion with upper Achilles tendon.
  • Plantar Fascia. Numerous points, refer to image chart on Workbooks.

  • Observation, palpations, structural changes on clients, before, during an after treatment.
  • Therapist best use of own body, to maximise energy preservation during treatment and avoid strain.
  • Diagnosing techniques for structural or emotional systems, following client symptoms and feedback.
  • Applying Kiom therapy techniques to real patients, with chronic injuries, during each course day.
  • Distinguish between general support and specific injury and to apply the distinction to one’s Kiom therapy treatment.
  • Produce a full body picture diagnose of physical restrictions, injuries and interconnections within the clients body.
  • Edit one’s own writing case study notes : diagnose, observational cues, treatment procedure and after care instructions.
  • Apply neuromuscular passive stretches to emphasise release and sustainability of body functions.

Instructional Methods

This course is taught using a variety of instructional methods including lecture (20%), class discussions, small group work, manual therapy practice (80%), case study projects and revision.
